Challenge Day Three / heart of darkness

river of lead won't have led
you to redemption by the end
and the very colour of guilt
by a cigar smoke's revealed
the sky will drag white wrath
coming across the seas
the earth has so many paths
but you chose one towards me?
what colour is your world
ivory? oil? rubber? diamond? gold?

Day 3: Find the nearest book (of any kind). Turn to page 8. Use the first ten full words on the page in a poem. You may use them in any order, anywhere in the poem.
'the earth but 'the very end of the world, a sea the colour of lead, a sky the colour of smoke...')
Joseph Conrad "Heart of Darkness"

No cheating; yesterday I was in our theatre to see a play based on Josph Conrad's "Heart of Darkess" and this very book is lying by my bed. Since yeserday my mind's been occupied by the performance so the poem is a review of it, kind of. An easy short-cut, I know, but can't help it.
